Introduction

Always one of the most important features that gamer users expect from the power sources of gaming systems is the high quality and life of the components along with low sound noise. UK Green series power supplies, the first examples of which were launched about 5 years ago, were aimed at the mid-range and economical gaming power supply market. Now, with the rapid development of technology, the expectations of gamers have also increased. The audio noise of systems based on new platforms has been reduced far compared to the past, and with the progress of the switching power supply design industry, many optimizations have been made to increase the quality, efficiency and life of the parts.

As you are aware, the Green Planet Sanat Campus Company started the transformation and improvement of the quality of its switching power sources about 2 years ago, and now this plan will be completed with the introduction of the new UK Plus series power supplies. In the second generation of UK Green (UK PLUS) series power supplies, which will be launched in three power ranges of 500W/550W/650W, thanks to the new topology in design, the fan with FDB technology and the much smarter performance of safety protections, we will witness higher efficiency. You will have a longer life and far less noise than the previous generation. In the following, we will introduce and explain the most important features of this series.

Modern half-bridge topology with resonant tank converter (LLC Resonant) in the primary section

In this series, there is no mention of the Double Forward topology of the previous generation, and like the high-end power supplies, thanks to the modern and highly efficient Half-Bridge topology, next to the LLC Resonant converter, which softens the switching waveform (Soft Switching) and practically realizes Zero Voltage Switching in input section, EMI carriers, RF and switching losses at the input are reduced and energy consumption efficiency is significantly increased. Also, LLC Resonant tank converters make it possible for the switching speed of MOSFETs in the input section to be much higher than the topologies of the previous generation, which will increase the efficiency of energy consumption in practice, especially in the no-load condition.

Topology of DC-DC converters with Synchronous Rectification in the secondary section

In the secondary section, UK PLUS series power supplies use the latest and most modern design, DC-DC converters with Synchronous Rectification. In this technique, Schottky diodes are no longer used in the output section, and Power MOSFETs have completely replaced them. In UK PLUS series power supplies, thanks to the use of the third generation of OptiMOS series power MOSFETs made by the German company Infineon, we see a significant increase in efficiency and a reduction in voltage drop and thermal losses. This significantly increases the useful life and tolerance of the power source against high ambient temperature.

Also, due to the installation of DC-DC converters in this section, the voltage of each of the main output branches (12V, +5V, +3.3V) is made and treated completely independently. In practice, this stabilizes the voltage level of the mentioned branches in Cross Load situations (unbalanced distribution of load on the output branches), Zero Load (completely unloaded situation) and adds protection (NLO (No Load Operation) to the capabilities of this series of Resources are fed.

Equipped with a new generation of cooling heat sinks in the output section

Due to the use of modern and extremely efficient Low-RDS(on) MOSFETs of the SMD type in the +12V branch of the output and their installation in the back part of the PCB, it will not be possible to remove heat with conventional methods. For this reason, special and new heat sinks have been considered so that the heat transferred to the PCB is transferred to the other side of the PCB in the fastest time and with the highest possible efficiency and is rejected by the air flow created by the fan.

Full safety protections in the entrance and exit section

UK PLUS series power supplies support all safety protections in both the input and output sectors, just like the high-end and expensive models. Components such as MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) and NTC Thermistor along with efficient filter and two layers of EMI in the input section have insured this series against RF carriers, disturbing harmonics, momentary spikes and initial inrush current. In the output section, thanks to the new Supervisor chip and the optimizations made for the precise configuration of this chip, all the output parameters such as voltage, current and temperature are checked online and instantaneously, and if any of the values are out of the specified range In order to preserve the health of the power and parts, a power shutdown order is issued as soon as possible.

Benefiting from Japanese electrolytic capacitor type 105C in the primary section

In the initial part of the UK PLUS series power supplies, a Japanese electrolytic capacitor with the ability to operate at a temperature of 105C is used. Compared to similar Taiwanese capacitors of 85C type, these capacitors have more than 4 times longer life and are noticeably more resistant to current ripple.

The maximum ripple and noise of the 12V branch voltage is equivalent to a quarter of global standards

Ripple and output noise is one of the most important factors in reducing the useful life of power and equipment connected to it. The voltage ripple of the 12V+ output branch of the UK PLUS series power supplies is up to a quarter of the most stringent and latest standard of ATX power supplies due to the modern implementation topology in the primary and secondary sections. This ensures the high voltage purity of this branch and its stability even in the most difficult conditions.

Energy consumption efficiency (Efficiency) according to the 80Plus GOLD standard

Having the most modern topologies of the day in the primary and secondary parts, along with high-quality components in the UK PLUS power supply, has made the energy consumption efficiency of the second generation of these power supplies reach a maximum of 92.5%. This level of efficiency has reduced energy consumption and electricity costs, very cool performance, very low sound noise and a significant increase in the lifespan of this series of power supplies.

Equipped with modern, high efficiency MOSFETs and (Low-RDS) on third generation OptiMOS

UK Plus power supplies owe a major part of their extremely high energy efficiency to German MOSFETs (manufactured by Infineon) with ultra-high switching speed, Low-RDS(on) and ultra-low leakage current in their secondary. This has finally resulted in an incredibly cooler performance and guaranteed a very long life of this series of Green Powers.

Extremely quiet fan equipped with FDB (Fluid Dynamic Bearing).

UK PLUS series power supplies are equipped with high-quality fans in the class of industrial applications with FDB technology. FDB fans, which currently have one of the most modern bearing systems, have a longer life than Double Ball Bearing fans and, of course, much less noise. Also, thanks to the ultra-smart fan controller intended for new generation UK PLUS power supplies, the sound noise of these models is very low up to about 70% to 80% of the nominal power of the power supply, and practically no sound from the power supply fan will reach the user's ears in this range.

Output cables are all flat + 16AWG thickness

In UK PLUS series power supplies, all output cables are of flat type with black color throughout. Flat cables are more flexible than common types, and this makes the cabling of parts easier and makes the system assembly more beautiful. Also, some PCI-E outputs of the UK PLUS series power supplies are equipped with a 16AWG cable. These cables have more than 40% more current passing capacity (more than 10A) than 18AWG samples. The result of this will be less voltage drop and losses, which will increase the efficiency of energy consumption and reduce the heat of the cables.

Compact design to occupy less space

Thanks to the modern and optimized design of the UK PLUS power series, the length of this series of Green Powers has reached a maximum of 140mm. This has increased the compatibility of this series with cases with limited space such as Micro-ATX models and HTPC platforms.
